The Myers-Briggs personality type Indicator (MBTI) has been widely used in many organisational settings around the world to support a more harmonious and productive work environment. By categorising individuals into 16 distinct personality types based on four Contrasts, extroversion vs. introversion, sensing vs. intuition, thinking vs. feeling, and judging vs. perceiving. the MBTI provides valuable understanding into communication styles, teamwork, and leadership (Salary Hero, 2023). It can help reduce conflicts, improve team work, improve communication and encourage self reflection among employees. 

                      

Enhancing Communication

Understanding the MBTI types of coworkers can  greatly improve communication within the workplace. For example , extroverts would prefer open and direct communication, while introverts may prefer more reserved interactions. By recognising these preferences, individuals can adjust their communication styles to better connect with their colleagues at work, thereby minimising misunderstandings and enhancing collaboration (Salary Hero, 2023).

Improving Teamwork 

By matching tasks with each team member's strengths and weaknesses, the MBTI may also be required to improve teamwork. Thinkers, for instance, are frequently well-suited for analytical jobs, but feelers excel in positions requiring emotional intelligence and empathy. In addition to increasing productivity, this thoughtful assignment of duties fosters team members' sense of fulfilment (Salary Hero, 2023).  


Developing Leadership Skills


Knowing the personality types of their team members might be beneficial for leaders. A more positive and effective environment at work can be created by leaders who adapt their style of leadership to the needs of their team. A team of extroverts, for example, would work better under an extroverted leader, but introverted team members could perform better under an introverted leader (Salary Hero, 2023).

Limitations and Best Practices

The MBTI has limited capacity to predict for success or job performance, although being a useful instrument for analysing preferences and tendencies (Fisic, I. 2022). As a result, it shouldn't be the only factor considered when choosing candidates for a job. Rather, it needs to be used in combination with additional evaluations to optimise team dynamics and improve cooperation (Myers-Briggs, 2023).

Including MBTI into HR strategies can notably improve workplace dynamics by enhancing communication, teamwork, and leadership. By embracing the diversity of personality types within an organisation, HR professionals can create a more inclusive and productive work environment where individuals can thrive and contribute to their fullest potential (Naab, K. 2023; Myers-Briggs, 2023).

  4. Even though MBTI use as HRM strategy, this can be labelling of employees in the work. This might assume certain types of employees are good at certain jobs and others are not. If someone can identify as a leader by the HRM, in the same time they might miss a quite one who is amazing at team work or a creative thinking.

However in sri lankan context mainly this tool is using in service sector organisation like IT & Banking. Believe that this tool should be introduced in to other sectors in the county as well through increasing the awareness about this tool among HR communities.
